The Dental Implant Procedure for Long-lasting Oral Security
Dental implants are an excellent treatment solution for patients who want to restore one or more missing teeth. These small, titanium posts are surgically placed within the jaw bone and provide support for a full range of prostheses. Dr. Bruce Gopin is a respected implant surgeon who can perform the entire dental implants procedure at his El Paso office and provide prosthetic restorations. Dr. Gopin also provides implant revision surgery for patients with poorly placed implants. To learn more, schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopin today.
Candidacy and Related Services
During your personalized consultation with Dr. Gopin, you will undergo a comprehensive examination to determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants. Because dental implants are inserted within and supported by the jaw bone, it is imperative that this bone is strong and large enough to sustain them. Dr. Gopin creates 3D imaging of each dental implant candidate's jaw, which he then uses in determining a patient's candidacy for implants.
If you have been missing teeth for some time and your jawbone has become weakened, you may require bone grafting before you are able to receive implants. During bone graft surgery, Dr. Gopin places donor bone tissue or bone from a patient's own body upon the jaw bone to strengthen it. Over the next few months, the jaw and donor tissue fuse together, creating a stable foundation for implants.
Several other related treatments commonly used in conjunction with dental implant surgery are also available at Dr. Gopin's office. These include ridge augmentations, sinus lifts, and socket grafts. Because Dr. Gopin provides this wide range of preparatory treatments in our office, our patients receive their implants in the most efficient manner possible.
Combining Experience with Precision
From the initial dental implant consultation to the surgery itself, Dr. Gopin uses sophisticated 3D imaging technology to provide extremely safe, precise implant placement. This technology allows Dr. Gopin to safely plan out where and which angle each individual implant will be placed within the jaw for the most stable, secure result.
The Procedure: a Closer Look
Traditional implants can be placed in as few as two appointments. To minimize pain and discomfort, we provide oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation is taken in pill form. Because it takes several hours to wear off, patients will need to have someone accompany them to surgery who can transport them home after it is completed.
Dr. Gopin surgically inserts the small implant rods into the jaw according to placement he has predetermined from the patient's 3D images. Because implants are made of a biocompatible material, they are not recognized by the body as foreign materials and are not at risk of rejection. After placement, the living jaw bone will begin healing and grow around the dental implant within a period of a few months. It is because of this reason that dental implants are not removable and should only be placed for patients who want a permanent solution.
Once a patient's implants have fused with the jaw bone, they will receive their permanent prostheses. Healing usually takes three to six months, longer if a patient receives bone grafting as well. Once their implants have healed, our patients will return to our office to receive their permanent restorations. Implants can support a range of prostheses. Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Gopin may attach a customized dental crown or implant-supported denture. These restorations can be cared for just like your natural teeth. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.
